COLORBOND® steel New Colour Range Brings New Possibilities To Victoria

03 June 2009

New leading edge technology from BlueScope Steel means that all roofs made from COLORBOND® steel now reflect more of the sun's heat and keep your home cooler.

BlueScope Steel's leading edge Thermatech® technology helps to do this by absorbing on average about five per cent less of the sun's heat therefore keeping the roof space cooler and providing greater thermal comfort in homes that feature a roof made from COLORBOND® steel.

Not only does the new COLORBOND® steel standard colour palette now have seven colours classified as light or very light under BASIX and the Building Code of Australia's colour classification, but with the addition of Thermatech® technology, the greatest improvement in thermal performance is in the dark colour range. In some homes it even reduces the need for the amount of insulation required to meet building regulations.

Orbit Homes is one of the first builders in the country to use the new colours that incorporate Thermatech® technology at the Reflections Display Village in Tarneit.

"Thermatech® technology has given us even more options than before," commented Ian Pumpa at Orbit Homes. "The COLORBOND® steel range incorporating the new technology allows us to achieve reduced energy impact consistent with the BCA guidelines and keep roofs cooler, which is great in Australia's harsh conditions."

Ian added: "Thermatech® technology has improved the performance of the dark colour range the most which now allows developers like us and homeowners a wider choice of roofing colours in Victoria."

BlueScope Steel's residential business development manager for COLORBOND® steel, Greg Jones says the new technology will help those in the building industry to meet industry regulations and best practice.

"Climate change and the impact that buildings are having on the environment are issues that are becoming more important throughout Australia, with moves to improve the energy efficiency of homes and ultimately reduce energy bills. Thermatech® technology can aid builders and designers in keeping a house cool by absorbing on average about five per cent less of the sun's heat - a feat of which no other material is capable."

In addition to Thermatech® technology, COLORBOND® steel now offer three new designer colours in the twenty colour range to suit every house style, geography and environment across Australia; Loft®, a rich, deep brown with a slight aubergine overtone, Monument®, a deep and subtle charcoal grey/blue, and Evening Haze®, a neutral cream.
