Set amongst the tranquil bush setting in Buderim on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, this stunning design demonstrates a modern four bedroom family home capturing practicality, aesthetics and environmental sensitivity.
The surrounds of the expansive eastern-facing coastal views and the natural bush setting creates an environment to showcase an example sophisticated living and family functionality.
As the winner of the 2010 BDAQ Design Award for Best House between 251sqm and 350sqm in the Sunshine Coast Area, the home’s design demonstrates an uncompromised, clean lined and elegant design that complements its location.
The main structure of the house floats above the recessed garage and gradually steps up the site for a “lightly touching” result that is sympathetic to the bush setting. The exterior of the house is also sympathetic to the setting with its simplistic and natural lines and expansive glass walls that allow light to flow through the entire house whilst also capturing the ocean view.
The single plane 7.5 degree pitch skillion roofing made from COLORBOND® steel in the colour Surfmist®, neatly ties together the stepped zones of the house. Roofing made from COLORBOND® steel was selected for its ease of use due to the single pitch of the roof and for its durability which ensures it remains water tight given the 24m single span. Guttering made from COLORBOND® steel in the colour Surfmist® ensures a seamless aesthetic between the roofing, guttering and the environment beyond.
Stepping inside the house there is a sudden feeling of space, light and warmth. The open plan design embodies a sense of entertaining through its combined kitchen, living room and dining room which allows the family to interact and engage. The light polished timber and white coloured tones of the interior reflect the natural lighting providing a light filled living space. The cross-flow ventilation allows the gentle breeze from the water, to enter the house and cool down a hot summer’s day. Venturing further back into the house, traditional living plans for personal rooms such as the bedrooms are used.
The practical outdoor area allows guests to wine and dine in the outdoor entertainment setting at the same time as enjoying the picturesque coastal view. The rolling hills that surround the outdoor highlight the stunning natural landscape which has been incorporated into the home’s design.
The overall outcome of the home’s design cleverly balances both function for family living and architectural form for aesthetics.
