For home buyers seeking an ecologically responsible, energy efficient, and economical way of building their new home, home builders 'Next - You're Home' have the answer. Working with award winning builder Ross Lang and acclaimed environmental architect John Maitland, 'Next - You're Home' is set to lead the field in environmentally sustainable design and building.
They have utilised building materials such as roofing and walling made from COLORBOND® steel, that help promote sustainable living in a stylish environment.
Achieving more than a seven star rating, the 'Next - You're Home' demonstration home was designed to showcase the company's energy efficient designs that are suited to the local climatic conditions. The architectural design is contemporary and inspirational, featuring steel roofing and wall cladding made from COLORBOND® steel in the colour Deep Ocean®, reminiscent of the area's heritage 'bluestone' architecture.
Steel roofing and wall cladding made from COLORBOND® steel are considered an important part of the showcase home design. Available in a range of 20 colours, COLORBOND® steel offers a complete range including colours to suit South Australia's heritage conservation zones.
"Energy efficiency is becoming increasingly important to homeowners looking to reduce their household energy consumption and save money on energy bills. When designing an energy smart home, it is important to consider details such as building materials, orientation, insulation and roof shape, as these all influence the energy efficiency of a home," said John.
Designs are specific to north orientation, with flexibility to accommodate some variation of aspect, to absorb maximum solar gain in winter. Thermal mass absorbs the heat during the day and lets it out at night. Ceiling fans further cool the air by natural circulation, thus reducing the extreme summer heat discomfort.
A roof or walling made from COLORBOND® steel or ZINCALUME® steel is strong and lightweight, has a relatively low embodied energy, and will cool down fast on a hot night. Thermally efficient roofing and walling made from COLORBOND® steel or ZINCALUME® steel assists in providing on-going cost savings for the life of the home.
"'Next - You're Home' builds homes that are cost effective to run, requiring minimal energy input and dollar output, can be built within acceptable time frames and provide long term financial as well as health and environmental benefits," said Ross.
Also, water is conserved by the use of rainwater tanks of relevant size connected to homes. Overflowing water can be then be used in ponds and other landscape features.
